Press Release Summary = The goal of the movement is to have legislation passed
regarding the composition of the Steward Board and the Trial of Itinerant Elders in
the AME Church.

Press Release Body = This movement formed to bring to the attention of members of
the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church proposed legislation that reads:

1. The Steward Board would comprise of nine (9) pastoral appointees and ten (10)
congregational appointees, and

2. The procedure for The Trial of Itinerant Preachers is clear and definitive.
There shall be an equal number of lay members and ministers on the Ministerial
Efficiency Committee.

Rev. Jean at Metropolitan AME Church, Washington, DC, initiated this movement. The
goal of the movement is to have legislation passed regarding the composition of the
Steward Board and the Trial of Itinerant Elders. The proposed legislation will
empower congregants. The proposed legislation reiterates that pastors are
accountable to the entire congregation as opposed to the Steward Board only as the
current system implies.
